This is SPC Dan Southard who was serving as the medic for the troops during the face off between 
the U S and Soviet tanks at C P Charlin in October of 1961.


SPC Dan Southard on left in January of 1960, with B Company of the 3rd Battle Group. Southard had just transferred from the Scout Platoon 2nd BG because a E-5 position was open in the Weapon's platoon. The sniper on the right was PFC Guy who carries an M1-D.

This is one of the Alert Platoons that responded to the raising of the Wall 
on August 13th of 1961. This pic was taken about 0700 just after ammo was distributed.
